Eating fresh fish in Österskär

One of the highlights of the summer was buying fresh fish from the local fisherman in Österskär (an island really in the middle of nowhere). Watching him arriving by boat from the secret location at the sea with fresh fish meant that today we would eat real super food, local fresh perch (white fish). The “shopping” itself was already an experience. First thing to know is that you probably should speak Swedish, preferably the local dialect, even to be able to buy any fish but you could probably make it also with a simple expression like “köpa fisk”.

First you choose the fish (it’s still alive), after that the fisherman will remove all the fishbones (be patient, this takes some time) and you’ll get the fresh, delicious fish fillet! Then it’s up to the Chef on board to prepare the fish (fry it on a pan with some salt and pepper) and add some extras such as cooked season’s potatoes and carrot.

You really cannot get more gourmet food in the middle of the archipelago. If you’ve got a chance to try this, you won’t be disappointed!

It's fresh until you buy it.

It’s alive until you buy it.

It takes time to process the fish.

Not a single fishbone left!

Very delicious!
